The second life of books

We Buy books

our services

We regularly buy all types of books

Although we are keen to buy older and rarer items, we also need to continually replenish our general stock. Specialist subjects are of particular interest to us, but we are happy to consider all subjects and genres. We are also keen to buy old photograph albums, ephemera, postcards and old travel journals. We purchase books on all subjects. We are interested in antiquarian as well as more recently published titles.

The second life of books

We call our service to the community “The Second Life of Books”. It is our proud aim to buy and sell books in a responsible and ethical manner. We have a great shop located in the heart of Arundel, where we sell our books with all the care and attention they deserve. Unlike other second-hand bookshops, we do NOT sell online. Every book has a unique story and deserves more than to end its days in landfill.

We believe in community spirit and a 1: 1 service.

Community is very important to us; we strongly believe that our shop should be a part of the local and indeed, wider book-loving community. That is why you will always be welcome in our shop, no matter that you just want to take time out from sightseeing or a hectic mornings retail shopping or indeed just seeking shelter from that sudden cloudburst!

Do you make house calls?

We are happy to visit you at home to view your books and make an offer for any saleable titles. If you live more than 25 miles away, we may ask you to email photographs or send us a list beforehand. In the first instance, it is best to give us a ring so that we can have a chat about your books and arrange a suitable date and time.  If we visit you, we will normally pay and clear on the same day. Payment can either be made in cash or by a same day BACS transfer.

A lady buyer

Lin Flowers- Hearne, the proprietor, will arrange to visit you, accompanied by one of her colleagues. Lin has had 40 years experience in buying and selling books so will be able to assess your books whatever quantity and however valuable.

Can you buy all of my books?

We are happy to clear an entire collection providing there are enough saleable items. We run two vans and have the capacity to purchase any quantity of books. It is always helpful if you can provide us with an estimate of how many books you have, for example the number of books or boxfuls if there is a large quantity.
